Senator Mike Lee (R) of Utah reportedly criticized the Biden-Harris administration on Tuesday for the prosecution and conviction of 89-year-old pro-life activist Eva Edl.
Edl and six other pro-life activists were convicted in federal court in Detroit late Tuesday morning of charges brought against them by the Biden administration, which accused them of conspiracy against rights and violating the FACE Act. Lee was responding to the news.
They could now be sentenced to over a decade in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines at the time of their sentencing.
Edl, a devout Christian, was rounded up as a minor and compelled to enter a concentration camp by the forces of Yugoslavian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito in the aftermath of World War II.
After immigrating to the United States, she became highly involved in pro-life activism throughout the nation.
Lee has emphasized the disproportionate application of the FACE Act to pro-lifers on numerous occasions and has introduced legislation in the Senate to repeal the Clinton-era law.
On Tuesday, fellow Republican Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) expressed his support for the repeal of the FACE Act and responded to the verdict from Detroit.
