Speaker Johnson Expresses His Intention to Defund Planned Parenthood

On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, reportedly stated that he would like to reduce the amount of money that the government spends on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and on Planned Parenthood; however, he also mentioned that he may encounter some resistance from Congress first.

“I would like to. That’s for sure,” said during a recent interview with Fox News.

Due to the fact that both organizations receive funding from the government, Martha MacCallum, the host, pointed out that they could be prime candidates for the efforts that Republicans are making to cut expenditure.

“Yeah,” Johnson said when MacCallum clarified whether or not he wanted to cut funding for the radical pro-abortion organization.

“We got to build consensus to have the votes to do that.” he added.

Johnson made the suggestion that the White House might be the source of more urgent adjustments to spending rules.

“Now, some of this will be done by executive order out of the White House. He has a broad authority to do a lot of that. But where Congress is involved, that’s where it takes the hard work of legislating and getting everybody on the same page.” Johnson noted.

“So there’ll be lots of ideas that come out. We don’t want to put too many of it out right now, okay, but this is part of that preparing the playbook to unleash and unroll in January.” he continued.

With the intention of serving as a counterweight to the commission that is being chaired by Musk and Ramaswamy, the Congressional Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus has been established.

Representative Aaron Bean (R-Florida) and Representative Pete Sessions (R-Texas) in the House of Representatives and Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) in the Senate are the leaders of the group.

As a result of the abortion services that it offers, Planned Parenthood has been a consistent target for Republicans.
