Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for President-elect Donald Trump, reportedly criticized Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for her “toothless” letter, which demanded stringent conflict-of-interest rules to regulate Elon Musk’s involvement in the incoming administration.
Warren was accused of engaging in “political games.”
She tried to claim in the letter that Musk was nw in a “position to influence billions of dollars of government contracts and regulatory enforcement” and that with no guardrails the billionaire’s role was “an invitation for corruption on a scale not seen in our lifetimes.”
The senator emphasized Musk’s stewardship of organizations such as SpaceX, Tesla, and X, which collectively receive federal funds and contracts.
“The American public has no way of knowing whether the advice that he is whispering to you in secret is good for the country — or merely good for his own bottom line,” Warren continued.
Warren’s letter inquired as to whether Musk would withdraw from matters concerning his companies and posed fourteen precise inquiries regarding his ethical obligations.
Nevertheless, in an interview with the Washington Post, Leavitt responded to Warren’s demands with a sharp jab, reviving a moniker that Trump has employed to disparage Warren’s previous assertions of Native American ancestry.
“President Trump has assembled the most impressive and qualified team of innovators, entrepreneurs, and geniuses to advise and staff our government.” Leavitt shot back.
“Pocahontas can play political games and send toothless letters, but the Trump-Vance transition will continue to be held to the highest ethical and legal standards possible — a standard unfamiliar to a career politician whose societal impact is 1/1024th of Elon Musk’s.” she added.
