Texas Governor Orders Flags to be Flown at Full Staff for Trump’s Inauguration

The Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, reportedly issued an order on Monday that all of the state’s flags be flown at full-staff on the day of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who will begin his second term in the White House.

A thirty-day period of half-staff mourning was declared by President Biden in honor of the late President Carter. This change causes a disruption to the time of sorrow.

Biden issued an order on January 28 that flags across the country be flown at half-staff until sunset.

“Texas continues to mourn with our fellow Americans across the country over the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. President Carter’s steadfast leadership left a lasting legacy that will be felt for generations to come, which together as a nation we honor by displaying flags at half-staff for 30 days.” Abbott said in a statement.

“On January 20, our great nation will celebrate our democratic tradition of transferring power to a new President by inaugurating the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” he continued.

“As we unite our country and usher in this new era of leadership, I ordered all flags to be raised to full-staff at the Texas Capitol and all state buildings for the inauguration of President Trump. While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America.” Abbott concluded.

On the 20th of January, Abbott’s directive would apply to all flags that are displayed at the Texas Capitol and other state facilities.

Carter, the President of the United States, passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, making him the longest-living president in the history of the nation.

In order to show respect for him, the flags were lowered to half-staff, and the White House declared that they would remain in that position for a period of thirty days.

In the immediate aftermath of Carter’s passing, Trump criticized Democrats for being “giddy” about the fact that flags would be down to half-staff during the time of his inauguration, which falls inside the 30-day period.
