A swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Mehmet Oz as the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) was reportedly abruptly cut short at the White House due to a medical emergency.
The event took place on Friday, with President Donald Trump officiating the ceremony.
While discussing nuclear negotiations with Iran, Trump was interrupted when someone in the room called for his attention, saying, “fainted,” as Dr. Oz rushed off camera to assist.
White House officials quickly instructed the press to leave the room, saying, “Press out! Everybody get out, right now!”
Family members of Dr. Oz were present, including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who stood nearby during the incident.
The White House later issued a statement confirming that a minor family member had fainted during the ceremony but assured that she was okay.
Reports from the press pool indicated that the person who fainted was a young girl who quickly stood up but appeared unsteady after Oz attended to her.
As the incident unfolded, Trump also spoke about the potential for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, suggesting he might abandon negotiations if “horrible people” complicate the process.
He remarked, “If, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we’re just going to say, you’re foolish, you are fools, you’re horrible people, and we’re gonna just take a pass.”
The fainting incident overshadowed the swearing-in event, highlighting the unexpected interruptions that can occur during formal ceremonies.
Overall, the ceremony concluded with concern for the young girl’s health, while the president’s remarks on international diplomacy continued to resonate.
