During a recent broadcast on NewsNation, Chris Cuomo reportedly criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), warning Democrats against supporting her potential presidential run in 2028.
He described her as an “80/20 loser,” suggesting that her popularity stems more from social media engagement than substantial legislative achievements.
Cuomo pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez has not made meaningful contributions in Congress, stating, “She’s done it all on social media.”
He argued that her positions cater to a small minority, rather than reflecting the broader views of the electorate. “Do you not get this concept of 80/20? She’s an 80/20 loser all day long,” he asserted, indicating that her stance on major issues aligns with only 20% of the public.
Cuomo further emphasized that Ocasio-Cortez is not focused on consensus or solutions, framing her as a socialist operating within a capitalist society.
He expressed concern that elevating her as a leading candidate would be a mistake for the Democratic Party.
As speculation grows about her ambitions, some believe Ocasio-Cortez might challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in the upcoming primaries.
Recent polling indicates that Schumer’s approval ratings among New York Democrats are precarious, with only 50% expressing support for him as Senate leader.
While some commentators suggest Ocasio-Cortez could be a formidable candidate if she shifts her messaging towards economic populism, Cuomo’s critique highlights the divisions within the party.
He cautioned that Democrats should carefully consider the ramifications of backing someone perceived as divisive, especially as the 2028 election approaches.
