Trump Speaks Out on Rumors of a Third Term in 2028

In a new interview with The Atlantic, President Donald Trump addressed rumors about a potential third term.

When questioned about whether he had directed the Justice Department to explore the legality of running again, Trump denied the claim but teased the idea, saying, “That would be a big shattering, wouldn’t it? Well, maybe I’m just trying to shatter.”

Despite his playful tone, Trump clarified that he is not actively pursuing a third term.

He acknowledged that many of his supporters express a desire for him to run again, but he stated, “It’s not something that I’m looking to do. And I think it would be a very hard thing to do.”

While Trump maintains that he is not considering a third run, merchandise promoting “Trump 2028” has surfaced, with hats selling for $50 each.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted the hats have been “flying off shelves” since their release, although she reiterated that Trump is not focused on another campaign.

Rumors of a third term gained traction earlier this year when Trump remarked to supporters that serving “twice or three times or four times” would be “the greatest honor,” later claiming it was a joke aimed at the media.

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution effectively prohibits any individual from being elected president more than twice.

Amending this amendment would require a two-thirds majority in Congress and approval from three-quarters of state governments, a feat that seems unlikely given current political dynamics.

As Trump navigates these rumors, he continues to maintain a significant presence in Republican politics, keeping supporters engaged with the prospect of future campaigns.
