President Joe Biden’s agenda has been stalled at the hands of moderate Democrat Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.).
Biden is now attempting to win back the favor of Joe Manchin in order to jumpstart his agenda again.
Biden’s massive $2 trillion “Build Back Better” boondoggle hang in the balance.
Democrats failed to remove the filibuster all together or form a carveout to remove it for election integrity legislation. It failed on Wednesday night.
Manchin has made clear that this does not sit well with him and Senate rules should only be changed with bipartisan support.
Senator Sinema has also said she is not in favor of eliminating the filibuster.
The cost of the spending bill is not sitting well with Manchin and that is where Biden seems to be pressing. Democrats are exploring making changes to the Child Tax Credit to make it permanent and fully funded in order to gain Manchin’s support.
The White House has stated that talking openly about the negotiation with Manchin has hurt them in the past, and because of that will keep these private.
The total $2 trillion dollar bill might not be attainable, but with the White House willing to negotiate we could see a deal reached that resembles the initial proposal.
Manchin represents a stare that is solidly red which could also affect his decision on the matter.
