While it may not be representative of the total primary electorate in the GOP the recent straw poll results from the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas are good news for President Trump.
The poll revealed Trump with a commanding lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, Mediaite reports..
Sixty Nine percent of the attendees at the conference favor President Trump in 2024.
Comparatively DeSantis came in second with Twenty Four percent follow distantly by Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) with two percent.
However, without Trump in the 2024 field DeSantis is the runaway favorite.
President Trump attended the conference but DeSantis didn’t. When asked who voters would support if Trump didn’t run, DeSantis had the support of sixty five percent of attendees.
Neither Trump or DeSantis have confirmed they are running for President. But both men seem to be positioning themselves for battle in 2024.
It is unclear if DeSantis would step aside and make way for Trump if Trump decides to run, or if he would dig in his heals and battle him head to head in the Republican primary.
