Joe Biden will travel to Florida on Tuesday to try and face down prospective 2024 challenger, and possible Trump successor Ron DeSantis. For the first time he will try and hold a campaign rally in a state which he lost in during the 2020 Presidential election.
Biden is expected to be preparing to launch his most venomous attack yet on DeSantis, the fiery governor who has continually used his office’s power to oppose the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 lockdowns, has mocked Biden’s age and abilities, and penalized Disney World for opposing a new state law limiting discussion of LGBTQ issues in schools.
DeSantis also recently made headlines when he chartered a plane for a group of illegal Venezuelan immigrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.
Some Democrats believe Biden should confront DeSantis and treat him like the playground bully they believe he is.
“I think people are going to look for him to be aggressive. What DeSantis is doing is a horrible thing. And there is no greater juxtaposition than the kindness and humanity of Joe Biden than the, you know, awful, inhumane, bully that is Ron DeSantis,” Democrat political consultant Jennifer Holdsworth claimed.
According to some Democratic officials, Biden will try to use his rally to label so-called “extremist” Republicans like DeSantis a threat to democracy, while also attempting to capitalize on outrage over the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark Roe vs Wade case.
DeSantis, has spent the previous two years painting Biden as a leftist villain for his handling of the COVID-19 as well as for the record setting inflation and crime currently being experienced by much of the country. He has also consistently questioned Biden’s mental capacity and advance age.
Many Democratic candidates continue to outperform Biden in polling as the midterm elections approach, a continuing sign of his struggles with popularity among voters.
