Former President Trump and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) reportedly sparred online on Sunday after Christie predicted that Trump would lose to Vice President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race.
Christie, who backed Trump in 2016 after abandoning his own presidential bid but has since become a vociferous Trump critic, made the 2024 prediction on ABC News, where he is currently a contributor.
When co-anchor Jonathan Karl questioned Christie on ABC’s “This Week” if Trump could beat Biden, Christie said, “I don’t think so.”
Trump responded on Truth Social. “‘Sloppy’ Chris Christie, the unsuccessful former governor of New Jersey, spent nearly his entire last year in office campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination in New Hampshire.
“I’m the target of Donald Trump’s new tantrum. None of his lies about me today bothered him when he asked me to prep him for every general election debate or offered me 3 different cabinet posts. He’s the only man to lose to Biden outside Delaware. That loss to Joe still stings.” Christie wrote in a response he posted to Twitter.
Christie served as the 55th Governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. Prior to that, he served as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 2002 to 2008.
He ran for President in 2016 alongside then candidate Donald Trump. Christie pulled out of the race but later went on to endorse Trump and become an advisor to the Trump campaign and the later Trump Presidency.
Trump is so-far the only major Republican contender to have announced a bid for president in 2024, but a number of other notable Republicans are anticipated to enter the race, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
