Four US soldiers were reportedly injured this week in an operation in the Middle East that successfully took out a top ISIS leader.
According to a news release from CENTCOM, the military personnel as well as a military working dog are being treated at a US medical facility in Iraq for the injuries they received during the successful but dangerous raid.
Al-Homsi was allegedly in charge of ISIS’s terrorist operations in eastern Syria, making him an extremely dangerous individual.
“Last night, during a partnered U.S. and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) helicopter raid in northeastern Syria, an explosion on target resulted in four U.S. servicemembers and one working dog wounded. The targeted ISIS senior leader, Hamza al-Homsi, was killed.” the statement read.
“The injuries to the US troops and working dog result from Hamza al-Homsi triggering an explosion on the target near Deir ez-zor, Syria. No other ISIS fighters were killed or captured on this target, however, a separate ISIS raid that same night resulted in the death of an ISIS assassination cell leader.” CENTCOM spokesman Col. Joe Buccino explained during a briefing.
According to an ABC news report 3 of the service-members are in stable condition while the fourth received only minor injuries.
Since the group’s emergence during the Obama administration the U.S. has continued to wage a rolling campaign against the brutal terror group as it moves between it’s various, but ever shifting strongholds throughout the middle east and Africa.
