It appears that Tucker Carlson’s view of former President Trump may not be nearly as rosy has he lets on publicly.
In text exchanges reportedly disclosed in court files as part of the network’s continuing legal battle with Dominion Voting Systems, Fox News personality Tucker Carlson privately voiced scorn for former President Trump.
“We are very very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait… I hate him passionately, I blew up at Peter Navarro today in frustration. I actually like Peter. But I can’t handle much more of this.” Carlson wrote in a text message to an unidentified Fox employee.
“That’s the last four years. We’re all pretending we’ve got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it’s been is too tough to digest. But come on. There isn’t really an upside to Trump” he added later in the conversation.
Carlson’s writing was included in a series of documents filed by Dominion as part of its $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox. Dominion has accused Fox of willfully broadcasting misleading accusations against the corporation made by Trump and his associates.
Fox has so far sought dismissal of the action on First Amendment grounds, accusing Dominion of cherry-picking quotations from its top talent and executives in order to create a stronger case in court.
It also claimed that Rupert Murdoch, the owner and co-chairman of Fox Corp, wrote to Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott that top anchors Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham went too far in embracing and amplifying Trump’s claims and statements regarding the 2020 race, which he alleged was ‘stolen.’
Murdoch admitted in internal conversations and depositions with Dominion’s attorneys that, in his view, Trump’s assertions about the 2020 election were false.
The trial for the case in question is reportedly scheduled to begin in April.
