President Biden’s personal attorney in Boston reportedly had nine new boxes of materials that contained potentially classified documents sent to the National Archives, according to a new congressional report.
In addition, it has been reported that new information about the investigation into Biden’s handling of government documents has been revealed in a letter sent to two Republican senators this week.
The letter focuses on attorney Patrick Moore, who was previously identified as the person who first discovered classified materials while packing up the president’s former think tank office in early November.
“When NARA [National Archives and Records Administration] contacted President Biden’s personal counsel on November 3, 2022, to arrange to pick up boxes from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C., they informed NARA that Mr. Moore had moved other boxes from the Penn Biden Center to Mr. Moore’s law firm in Boston,” Acting Archivist of the United States Debra Steidel Wall wrote in a letter dated to this Tuesday.
Wall said that the National Archives had been notified that Biden’s counsel began their assessment of the records in the Penn Biden Center in October 2022, which was earlier than what was previously known, and that they had relocated certain boxes to Boston at some point after that review began.
Wall continued, confirming that the nine boxes of materials had been received from the office of Biden’s attorney but also saying that it remained unclear whether they contained any classified materials as they have yet to be searched.
According to Biden’s legal team, the debate surrounding the documents dates back to the beginning of November, when Biden’s attorneys discovered around ten records that were designated classified while cleaning out Biden’s office at the Penn Biden Center.
Despite this, the finding was not made known to the general public until CBS News broke the story of an investigation being conducted by the United States Attorney John Lausch.
Once the information was made public, Biden stated that his staff promptly contacted the National Archives in order to hand over the documents.
After the preliminary investigation that was conducted by Lausch, Attorney General Merrick Garland nominated former United States Attorney Robert Hur to the position of special counsel to investigate whether or not any individual or organization has broken the law in relation to this situation.
The home of Vice President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware; his beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware; and the Penn Biden Center, a think tank located in Washington, District of Columbia, have all been searched for documents by the FBI.
These searches have resulted in the discovery of additional materials that are of interest to investigators.
During the entirety of this process, Biden’s personal attorneys as well as the White House have maintained that they are working cooperatively with the National Archives and the Justice Department.
As a result of the discovery of classified materials in the homes of former President Donald Trump, who is currently the subject of an investigation conducted by a different special counsel, and former Vice President Mike Pence, the National Archives has requested that all other former Presidents and Vice Presidents search their homes for any additional materials of this nature.
