Sen. Ted Cruz, the Republican Senator from Texas, plans to present a constitutional amendment on Wednesday that would limit the number of justices serving on the United States Supreme Court to nine at any given time according to a new report from The Daily Caller.
The Democrats in the Senate have, for the most part, maintained their silence regarding the question of whether or not they support packing the court or adding more seats to the court which they would then stack with liberal appointees.
An outcome that Senate Republicans insist will occur if Democrats gain complete control of the Senate.
During an interview in October 2020, Chuck Schumer, who was serving as the Minority Leader of the Senate at the time, was asked what Democrats might be able to do with regard to the court if they were to win control of the Senate the following November.
Schumer responded by saying that nothing is off the table, meaning that packing the court was possibility
Paul Summers, the chair of the Keep Nine Coalition; Richard Manning, the president of Americans for Limited Government; Bob Carlstrom, the president of AMAC Action; Grover Norquist, the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform; the Eagle Forum; and other organizations and individuals have all expressed their support for Cruz’s proposed constitutional amendment.
Cruz is reportedly intending on presenting his revised version of the resolution sometime on Wednesday.
