After being stopped in Sacramento for disobeying a red light and driving without headlights, state senator Dave Min was reportedly charged with a minor DUI, according to authorities.
A statement from the California Highway Patrol’s Capitol Protection Section claims that about 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, CHP officers saw Min’s silver Toyota Camry heading southbound just a few blocks from the State Capitol without headlights.
California’s 37th Senate District, which covers Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Orange, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach, is represented by Min, a Democrat.
Officers found Min to be over the legal limit, and Min was then taken into custody, according to CHP.
It wasn’t apparent if a breathalyzer test had been performed on him.
Min received a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated with blood alcohol content citation.or 8% or more. He was arrested and released early on Wednesday morning from the Sacramento County Jail.
On social media, Min, who is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, expressed regret.
Rep. Katie Porter, who is seeking the U.S. Senate seat of Dianne Feinstein, presently holds the position in Congress. In January, Min declared her intention to challenge Porter.
