Bezos Lands Another Huge Deal

Jeff Bezos has always had lofty goals, but none may be bigger than his attempt to colonize outer space. Speaking at the Ignatius Forum in 2021, Bezos provided his vision for where he thinks humanity should be headed.

“He claimed Earth might one day become a vacation destination, just like our national parks. All manufacturing would be in outer space, with workers permitted occasional visits to the surface.

Yes, humans will be born in space and then visit “the way you visit Yellowstone National Park.

“Bezos dreams of floating space cities that contain rivers, forests and wildlife, he said during his panel discussion,” explained Deadline.

Now it looks like Amazon guru is helping NASA turn his vision into reality.

CNBC writes, “The billionaire’s space company, Blue Origin, won a key contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Friday to develop a crewed lunar lander for delivering astronauts to the moon’s surface later this decade under the agency’s Artemis program.

The effort is effectively a more than $7 billion project. NASA’s contract award is worth just over $3.4 billion, officials said Friday, and Blue Origin Vice President John Couluris said the company will contribute ‘well north’ of the contract’s value as well.

‘We’re making an additional investment in the infrastructure that will pave the way to land the first humans on Mars,’ NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in announcing the Blue Origin award. ‘Our shared ambitions now are no less lofty than when President [John F.] Kennedy dared a generation of dreamers to journey to the moon.’”

Blue Origin says it “was founded with a vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. Blue Origin envisions a time when people can tap into the limitless resources of space and enable the movement of damaging industries into space to preserve Earth, humanity’s blue origin.

Blue Origin is working today to create that future by developing reusable launch vehicles and in-space systems that are safe, low cost, and serve the needs of all civil, commercial, and defense customers. Blue Origin’s efforts include flying astronauts to space on New Shepard, producing reusable liquid rocket engines, developing an orbital launch vehicle with New Glenn, building next-generation space habitats, and returning to the surface of the Moon. These endeavors will add new chapters to the history of spaceflight and move all of humanity closer to that founding vision.”
