The possibility of impeaching Merrick Garland was reportedly brought up by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) over the weekend in response to allegations made by a whistleblower that the attorney general had interfered with a criminal investigation in order to save the Biden family.
On Thursday, the head of the House Ways and Means Committee, Jason Smith (R-MO), made whistleblower testimonies public that claimed Garland had obstructed the investigation against the president’s son, Hunter, being conducted by U.S. Attorney David Weiss in Delaware.
Garland and the Department of Justice are accused of preventing Hunter’s indictments in California and Washington, D.C., as well as of dismissing a request for special counsel protection.
When questioned about the whistleblower claim on Friday, Garland refuted it and stated that Weiss had complete right to file whatever charges in whichever court he saw fit.
Garland also denied ever getting a request to make Weiss a special counsel.
If the charges made by the whistleblower are confirmed, Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee (R-OH), suggested impeaching the president.
