Pelosi to Reportedly Attend Fundraiser for Democrat Challenging Senator Kyrsten Sinema

Despite not endorsing either candidate, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will reportedly headline a virtual fundraising event for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s (I-AZ) chief opponent on Thursday.

Pelosi has been disclosed as the special visitor for the virtual fundraiser of Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).

Pelosi has not endorsed many candidates for 2024, with the exception of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to succeed retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in February.

The invitation suggests that contributors contribute between $500 and $6,600 for visitors and sponsors, respectively.

Those attending as “friends” are encouraged to contribute $3,300 to the campaign, while those attending as “supporters” are encouraged to contribute $1,000.

Thursday, June 29, at 4 p.m. local time, 7 p.m. Eastern time, the action will occur.

In order for Democrats to maintain their majority in the Senate in 2024, retaining the Arizona seat is viewed as crucial.

Late last year, Sinema quit the Democratic Party and has not yet announced a reelection bid.

Nonetheless, Democrats are concerned that if she runs, it could divide Democratic electors and hand the seat to the Republicans.

Senate Democrats only possess a narrow majority in the upper chamber.

Sinema has repeatedly clashed with the Democratic leadership in the Senate since she assumed office in 2019.

Recent disagreements have included opposition to increasing the federal minimum wage and certain taxes on corporations and the affluent.
