The annual Defense authorization bill has reportedly been amended by a bipartisan group of senators, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), mandating that the federal government compile and release information about unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and anomalous phenomena (UAPs).
“For decades, many Americans have been fascinated by objects mysterious and unexplained and it’s long past time they get some answers. The American public has a right to learn about technologies of unknown origins, non-human intelligence, and unexplainable phenomena.” Schumer announced in a statement.
“We are not only working to declassify what the government has previously learned about these phenomena but to create a pipeline for future research to be made public,” he continued.
The National Archives and documents Administration would be required by the proposed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to compile a set of documents on UAPs and UFOs, which would then have to be made public unless a review board can justify keeping them secret.
Schumer said that by advancing funds for the Pentagon’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, he is continuing the work of previous Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who did it more than ten years ago.
After that initiative was made public and media outlets started posting videos of strange aerial phenomena obtained by the cameras and sensors aboard military planes, lawmakers’ interest in learning more about UFO encounters skyrocketed.
Senators, congressmen, committees, and staff started looking into this issue when the initiative became known, and they found a huge web of people and organizations with ideas and stories to offer.
