A moderate group planning to support a third-party candidate for the 2024 presidential election was reportedly derided by Democratic strategist James Carville.
Critics are concerned that this move will increase former President Donald Trump’s prospects of winning the presidency again.
The former Bill Clinton advisor said in an interview with The Hill that “No Labels” did not have a clear message and was not forthcoming with facts about its finances.
“No Labels is my favorite. They won’t tell you where their money comes from; they say they’re funded by undisclosed corporate dark money. And they won’t take a position on anything.” Carville said.
“But yet they’re offering the American people something new and fresh. That’s a good line of f—ing bullshit there.” he continued.
In the same interview, Carville discussed the depth of the Republican base’s attachment to Trump and made predictions about who would win the party’s nomination for president. In Carville’s opinion Trump is easily the front runner to triumph in the GOP primary.
Carville’s critical remarks on No Labels, a group advocating for a third-party candidate, especially if President Biden and Donald Trump are their respective parties’ choices, set the tone for the rest of the interview.
Critics have previously warned liberals a third-party contender in 2024 would simply serve to weaken Biden’s popularity and strengthen Trump.
In addition, Carville criticized No Labels’ rhetoric and lack of disclosure on its financing sources.
The strategist then turned to the subject of Trump, claiming that the 77-year-old former president’s health and legal issues may have an impact on his performance.
Carville concluded the interview by praising the skill of the Democratic Party field, adding that the party has genuine talent in addition to Biden.
