Prior to his planned surrender on Thursday night, former President Donald Trump has now reportedly replaced his top Georgia attorney.
Steven Sadow, a lawyer based in Atlanta, will take over as the attorney in charge of leading Trump’s defense in Georgia, replacing Drew Findling.
Sadow formally represented the former president in the dispute on Thursday morning by filing the necessary paperwork.
“I have been retained to represent President Trump in the Fulton County, Georgia case. The president should never have been indicted. He is innocent of all the charges brought against him. We look forward to the case being dismissed or, if necessary, an unbiased, open minded jury finding the president not guilty. Prosecutions intended to advance or serve the ambitions and careers of political opponents of the president have no place in our justice system.” Sadow said in a statement.
Jennifer Little, another Georgia-based attorney for Trump, is anticipated to remain on the legal staff and collaborate with Sadow.
During a 2021 interview about the possible accusations Trump faced in Georgia, Sadow attacked RICO charges as a vehicle for prosecutors to present information that would otherwise not be admissible.
The sudden change in legal counsel follows Trump’s August 2022 hiring of Findling, a well-known criminal defense lawyer, to handle the Fulton County case.
Even before filing charges against Trump, Findling made a number of forceful and unsuccessful attempts to have the case’s evidence thrown out and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis removed from office.
The 2020 election results in Georgia are the subject of more than a dozen allegations against Trump, who will be arrested on Thursday. This will be the fourth time this year that the former president has been charged with a crime.
