The Republican governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, reportedly requested a special session on Friday so that she could present bills that would reduce taxes, modernize the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and oppose mandates for the COVID-19 vaccination.
Sanders talked about the things she’s done to address some of the topics she thinks Arkansas residents care about most, like improving education, cutting taxes, battling crime, and boosting the state’s tourism industry.
“Acting under the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby call an Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly to convene in Little Rock on September 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., and I do hereby specify that the General Assembly is convened in such Session to consider, and if so advised, enact laws for the following purposes,” Sanders said.
“When I took this office, I promised to limit the growth of government before government could limit the growth of liberty. To achieve that, today I am calling a special session of the legislature, beginning next Monday, focused on three things: cutting taxes, streamlining state government, and protecting our freedom.” Sanders continued.
She also outlined what citizens should anticipate from the upcoming legislative session in Arkansas, stating that she hopes to concentrate on lowering the state income tax, eliminating waste in government operations, and cutting total spending.
The next session will take place in April of 2024.
