The far-left president of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is now reportedly facing criticism after it was revealed that her oldest child attends a private school.
According to a report by NBC Chicago, Stacy Davis Gates, who was elected president of the Chicago Teachers Union in 2022 and also holds the position of executive vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, enrolled her teenage son in a Catholic high school on Chicago’s South Side.
Davis Gates’ child’s name and the school he attended were not included in the study, which cited numerous sources including Davis Gates’ own social media posts as evidence of the enrolment.
Last year, Davis Gates claimed that having children enrolled in public schools “legitimizes” her position within the union and that, absent that, she would be unable to promote public education.
Davis Gates, whose two younger children attend public schools despite the enrolment, has already expressed his vehement opposition to private education and school choice.
Davis Gates added that she and her husband felt “forced” to enroll their kid in a private high school in order to fulfill his desire to play soccer.
Harlan Community Academy, the local high school where Davis Gates’ family lives, is ranked 437th out of the 664 high schools in Illinois.
