Tuesday, Hunter Biden reportedly filed a civil lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and his former counsel, alleging that their alleged attempts to hack his devices violated federal and state computer privacy laws and caused the “total annihilation” of his digital privacy.
The federal lawsuit claims that Giuliani, a lawyer for Donald Trump’s campaign, spent months reviewing the digital data before giving it to reporters and Republican politicians ahead of the 2020 contest with Joe Biden.
The lawsuit claims that Giuliani’s attorney, Robert Costello, who is now also suing Giuliani for $1.36 million in unpaid legal expenses, also assisted in reviewing and disseminating data from the laptop.
The complaint was filed two days before of the House Oversight Committee hearing on President Biden’s possible impeachment, which would be partially based on data from the laptop.
The GOP investigation has been brushed off by the White House as biased and without merit in spite of significant evidence to the contrary.
The complaint was filed in Los Angeles, where Hunter Biden currently resides.
The federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the California Computer Data Access and Fraud Act, and the California Unfair Competition Law are all allegedly violated according to the lawsuit.
The information on an external hard drive and Hunter Biden’s laptop are at issue. Biden never came back to pick up the device after leaving it at a Delaware computer repair business. John Paul Mac Isaac, the store owner, asserted possession of the apparatus and gave it to Giuliani and the FBI. Biden earlier filed a lawsuit against Mac Isaac for selling the laptop.
Hunter Biden has made an effort to dispute the accuracy of what has been made publicly available from the laptop because the digital information has changed hands so frequently.
