Democrat Congressman Carjacked at Gunpoint in D.C.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was reportedly the victim of a carjacking on Monday night in Washington, D.C.

Cuellar is a representative for Texas’s 28th Congressional District, which covers the cities of Laredo, Rio Grande City, and San Antonio, and is now completing his tenth term in the House.

Three armed persons approached the congressman as he was parking his car outside of his Navy Yard, D.C. apartment and stole his vehicle.

The Texas Democrat was unharmed in the incident, according to Cuellar’s chief of staff, and the automobile was eventually found.

When questioned about the event, DC Metro Police declined to name Cuellar as the victim, instead stating that a carjacking had taken place at the junction of New Jersey Avenue and K Street SE just after 9:30 p.m.

Cuellar became the second Democratic member of Congress to experience crime in the nation’s capital this year as a result of the event on Monday.

Angie Craig, a Minnesota congresswoman, fought off an assailant in an elevator incident that occurred in her apartment building in February.
