In the course of Fox News’s ongoing legal battle with voting equipment manufacturer Smartmatic, a New York judge denied the cable news channel’s attempt to summon billionaire George Soros.
Justice David B. Cohen of the Manhattan Supreme Court denied Fox’s motion on Monday to compel Soros to produce records and testimony as part of the case’s discovery process.
Soros is a liberal billionaire whose open society foundation has consistently backed a variety of far-left causes across the world.
Earlier this month, Fox filed a motion to remove Mark Malloch Brown, the president of the Open Society Foundation, which receives funding from Soros, and the chair of the parent company of Smartmatic.
In 2021, Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion lawsuit against Fox, claiming that the network intentionally provided former President Trump’s attorneys, Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, with a forum to disseminate misinformation about its software after the 2020 election.
Fox consented to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787 million this spring in order to resolve various defamation lawsuits the network had been filed against for its coverage of the 2020 election.
