This week, as part of their investigation into whether New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign received illicit payments from the Turkish government, the FBI confiscated Adams’ electronic devices.
Approaching Adams on the street with a court-approved warrant, FBI officers gathered his electronics, which included two phones and an iPad.
“After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly. In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators. The Mayor has been and remains committed to cooperating in this matter.” Adams’ attorney Boyd Johnson said in a statement.
“The Mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and provided them with electronic devices. The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation.” the statement continued.
The action was taken more than a week after the FBI raided the Brooklyn residence of Adams’s 25-year-old campaign strategist, Brianna Suggs, and took three iPhones and two laptop computers in addition to other documents and evidence related to the investigation.
