After 19 years in Congress, Rep. Brian Higgins (D-New York) announced on Sunday that he will resign in February, citing frustrations in the chamber during an especially turbulent year.
Representative for the predominantly Democratic 26th Congressional District of New York, Higgins, cited escalating dysfunction.
The 10th term of Higgins, who is 64 years old, commenced in January 2023. He is a member of both the House Budget Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee. Higgins is a co-chair of the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group and the Northern Border Caucus. His position on the Bipartisan Cancer Caucus is co-chairman.
He joins several other members of the House who have recently declared their intention to leave office.
According to reports, he stated that he had been receiving job offers but was unsure of his next move following his February departure.
His office has not confirmed the rumors that Higgins is likely to assume a position at the renowned Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, which have been reported by local media outlets.
