A former colleague of the City of New York has leveled sexual assault allegations against Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
The allegation, which was initially documented by The Messenger, was presented in a legal document published late on Wednesday.
During that period, Adams held the rank of captain within the New York City Police Department. The lawsuit also included the New York Police Department’s transit bureau and the NYPD Guardian Association as named parties.
A spokesperson for the mayor unequivocally refuted the allegation.
“The mayor does not know who this person is. If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it. But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim.” they said.
The lawsuit, filed just days before the expiration of the Adult Survivors Act—a New York statute that momentarily waived the statute of limitations for sexual assault accusers to file legal claims—involved the plaintiff in an effort to recover at least $5 million.
Mayor Adams is presently embroiled in an unrelated FBI investigation that seeks to ascertain whether his 2021 campaign engaged in collusion with the Turkish government through an influence peddling scheme, in addition to the lawsuit.
