This week, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) engaged in a heated dispute with a far-left activist who urged him to declare a ceasefire in Gaza in the midst of Israel’s military campaign to eliminate Hamas militants from the region.
Medea Benjamin, an activist and co-founder of Code Pink, approached Senator Rubio in the entryway of a building in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. Benjamin has previously defended Hamas on X.
During the ambush interview, Benjamin asked Rubio, “Senator Rubio, will you call for a ceasefire in Gaza?”
“No I will not. On the contrary — are you filming this? I want you guys to get this.” Rubio responded.
“I want them to destroy every element of Hamas they can get their hands on. These people are vicious animals who did horrifying crimes, and I hope you guys post that, because that’s my position.” he continued.
Rubio was questioned again by Benjamin, who cited figures provided by the Gaza Ministry of Health of Hamas about whether he was indifferent to the loss of innocent lives.
“And what about the civilians that are being killed every day?” Benjamin asked.
“I blame Hamas for that. Hamas should stop hiding behind civilians, putting civilians in the way. Hamas knew that this was going to lead to this. So Hamas must stop building their military installations underneath hospitals, underneath civilian –” Rubio shot back.
